After almost ten years of living in an apartment and taking my laundry to the laundromat, I'm finally moving into a place with hookups, and I get to buy my very first washing machine! The thing is, I've never had one before, so I'm a bit lost on which brands or features are really worth considering. I'm looking for something that's reliable, efficient, and not too big. Any suggestions or things I should steer clear of? Thanks so much in advance

Most new washers are packed with gimmicks you'll never use and break faster than older models. If it doesn't have a mechanical dial, I wouldn't trust it. Simpler used machines often outlast today's flashy, overpriced, digital junk

For reliability and efficiency, look into brands like LG, Samsung, or Whirlpool. A front-load model with a good energy rating and load-sensing feature is worth it. Just make sure it fits your space, and avoid anything with too many fancy extras you won't use. Got myself an LG and I am loving the convenience!

The best thing is to check out what features each washer offers. For example, some have programs like allergy steam or something like that, so if you're allergic to certain fabrics, it might be a good thing to have. As for brands, as long as you avoid those cheap and no-name ones you shouldn't have any issues.

@Muuray0 I share your enthusiasm for the olden days, but unfortunately they're gone. I haven't seen a mechanical washer for years, so I doubt that's an option.

Basically, just look for machines with good energy and water efficiency ratings to save on bills. Front loaders tend to be gentler on clothes and use less water, but top loaders are often simpler and faster.

Each one of us will give you tons of recommendations, but it up to you to decide. First look at your budget and go from there. There's hardly any miss with the reputable brands, so you won't go wrong there.
