I have a stupid question

Many people said that 10 years is too short for a washer to give up on life, so it got under my skin that I'm responsible for poor maintenance and usage. I tend to think big and even though it's just me an my wife, I always go for a large washer which is what I did with the LG before and my new Samsung one. This got me thinking. Manufacturers have those half load programs and whatnot, but are they putting too much strain on the washers or am I just becoming paranoid?

You're not paranoid, it's a fair question. Large washers can handle light loads fine, especially with half-load settings, but just avoid overloading and do basic maintenance

Ten years is plenty for a washer, blaming yourself is overkill. Big loads or half-load cycles aren't killing it; manufacturers design washers for real-life use. Maybe we're just spoiled, expecting appliances to last forever

You’re overthinking it a bit. Large washers are built for full flexibility, and using half loads occasionally is totally normal. What kills them is imbalance, overloading, and lack of cleaning...not the size or cycle choice itself.
